Task

You wake up and discover that you have become a black slave on a plantation (you can choose the state that follows the slave route) and the year is 1849.  You have a small family that consists of a mother, father, and a child who is a teenager.

You must decide in your group who will be the mother, father, and child.

You must travel through the Underground Railroad and overcome the perils of the long route so that you can safely arrive in Canada where you will find freedom.  Your assignment is to keep a journal of your experiences as you move through the Underground Railroad.

Unfortunately, you had to leave the child's grandparents behind at the plantation.  Unlike most of the slaves during this time, you and your family are literate and able to send letters through the Underground Railroad to let the grandparents know what has been happening and who you have met.  They may decide to take the same route, so you have to warn them of the dangers you encounter.

You need to include at least one of the people who were notably involved with the Underground Railroad and write about that encounter.

 Have Fun!
