Teacher Guidelines and Notes

• You may want to introduce the Underground Railroad by reading children's books to the class or by going through curriculum introduced in the school.
• You may also want to show a movie that is listed for teachers under Teacher Resources.
• Begin with what your expectations and goals are from this project.
• Introduce students to the web links and explain how they should conduct their research.
• Plan on working for at leat an hour per day for about two weeks on this assignment. 
  
• Allow students to do research and write out what they have learned.  Stress collaboration among groups of students and how to work together successfully.
• Monitor students at all times, so that they are on the right track.
• Towards the end of the unit show the class either a concluding movie, virtual field trip, or take the class on a real field trip to a museum or place of importance related to the Underground Railroad.
