Task

Our library has realized and notified us that most of their books on Native American nations are a little outdated and don't contain all the information students may need or be interested in so they have asked each fourth and fifth grade class to research three different nations and design a magazine for each so that future students will be able to learn more up-to-date information on each nation and the area they live in. In addition each student is being asked to relate to their first and second grade buddies one of their nations' myths or stories in the oral tradition.

For our Class:

Everyone is being placed into groups and each group will research, design, and 'publish' a magazine on your assigned Native American nation.

Group 1&5- Inuit

Group 2&4- Lakota

Group 3&6- Cherokee

Each group should divide the different aspects needed for the magazine and follow the process steps. Also towards the end each student will need to pick a story from their groups tribe to 'memorize'.

The story will be picked by each student, however you will not be reading it while you memorize it at first. Instead the story will be recorded for you to listen to in order to keep with the oral tradition, repeatition of listening will be important here.

This project is not something that will be able to be completed within a week or something that you will be allowed to wait to the last minute to start. Instead this project is going to take about two months in order to fully learn and pull together all aspects of this project. This is a time for you to use the special skills you have as an individual, that we've talked about in class, in order to make the best finished product. Each week each group is going to set some goals for themselves with my help and  on Fridays we will review what the group and each individual within the group has done to accomplish these goals and set up the next weeks goals.
