In this webquests students will be learning about similes and writing similes about snow. They will complete a PowerPoint with the similes they have written as well as virtual paper snowflakes.
Introduction

“Snow is as common as dirt.” At least that is what people in Vermont where Wilson Bentley grew up thought. Not Wilson though. He loved snow, but not the way most people love snow. He used to look at snowflakes in a microscope and try to draw them, but they would always melt before he was done. We he got older his parents got him a camera that attached to a microscope and he was able to share with the world how uncommon each snowflake was. He even published a book of his snowflakes.
Now the publishers are looking for new images of snowflakes for a children’s book. The publishers would like to have students submit their own images of snowflakes and for each snowflake they would like a simile helping to describe the uniqueness of each snowflake. The group of students with the winning presentation will have their images and snowflakes published in a book and will win a virtual trip to the snow festival in Sapporo, Japan.
