Teacher Process
The students' tasks have already been divided into days. However, there is no problem in extending the time limit if you consider it necessary. Here are some directions for each day.
Day 1.
The first step, choosing a character, should take no longer than 5 minutes. Make sure every student has chosen a picture and that no 2 students (except when working in pairs) have the same picture. Choosing a name and picture should take no more than 10 minutes. After that, have your students take a look at the web sites to learn about the production of cotton clothes. Make sure they have completed the Template at the end of the session.
Day 2
Every student should only look at the web sites intended for his/her character. Make sure they have completed the Character Template by the end of the session or have them complete it as homework. In any case, they need to fill it in before next session.
Day 3
The three or four students in each team get together. Each one of the characters introduces himself and explains what is his job in the factory or what part he/she plays in it. Once every student has spoken and the Character Templats for all the characters has been filled in, they should start discussing the best way to set up Francesc new cotton factory.
Day 4
This is a good start to know what wikis are about. The site contains a guided tour and offers free space for your wiki.
Ideally, you should create a wiki before reaching Day 5. Ideally also, your students should already know about wikis. Today’s task is to introduce some of what the students have learnt about the period in the common wiki. Encourage them to introduce pictures and be creative. The information introduced shouldn’t be more than a page. Copy and Paste should be penalized.
Day 5
Encourage positive feedback and also self-criticism from your students when checking their partner's wiki. If they want to spend longer looking at their partner's wikis, ask them to prepare the Oral presentation as homework.
Day 6 Every student should have enough copies of the Power Point Rubric so as to assess all the groups. At the end of the presentations, have each group team up and discuss all presentations.
