This webquest will be a lesson on how to teach struggling students phonics and phonemic awareness.
Teacher Introduction

Hello,
My name is Ruth Charlton and I am a 2nd grade teacher in a charter school in Highland Park, Michigan. As a part of my curriculum for ELA, we use the "Open Court Series" from SRA. This series is very helpful in building the basic reading skills of struggling students. It is also helpful in reinforcing the skills for the on task students.
I am creating this webquest in part for teachers of higher grades who find themselves having to review basic concepts with older students who did not get the instruction they needed in the lower grades for whatever reason.
My intention is to keep it simple and allow you to explore websites to give you some ideas on how to implement this concept in your teaching. Yes, you shouldn't have to, but depending on where you work, you eventually will have to revisit certain concepts. Let's just bite the bullet and do it.
As for me, I am currently working on my master's in education and look forward to a long career of helping children. Enjoy my simple, yet informative webquest. I believe in keeping things simple.
