Teacher Process
This WebQuest should take place over several days, a minimum of three is preferable. Students may also need guidance and scaffolding to help them read the information contained in the websites that they will explore.
Be sure to share the children's book Bronto Eats Meat by Peter Maloney and Felicia Zekauskas prior to beginning this unit of study.
Under ideal circumstances, students would be able to work through this WebQuest in a computer lab. It would also work successfully as part of a learning center.
Use the "Tooth Diary" to help students monitor information as they explore the various websites and focus their searching.
Each student should be assigned a role: fact finder, word wizard, and illustrator. The fact finder should be a good reader. The word wizard is given specific words to look for and to write their meaning, as a group they should be able to read and decipher the meaning of the words. English Language Learners and other students who may have difficulty with vocabulary can be front loaded on these terms. They should also be included in additional lessons and activities designed with this standard in mind. The illustrator can be any student, but may a beneficial role for a student who has a slower learning curve.
