Teacher Process
The students are looking for information and pieces/artifacts to include in their exhibit about Jane Goodall. They should also be collecting information about the definition of man - this should be included as part of their final exhibit.
Organize the students into groups of four. They will decide as a group who will take on which role.
- Curator – determine objects that should be acquired for display (including estimated costs of such objects) [This should be the leader of the group.]
- Archivist/Registrar – works with the curator to maintain information
regarding when, where, and how an object was obtained as well as
determining the necessary insurance for the object [This is a supporting role and may be easier than the others.]
- Educator – develop the educational program to correlate with this
exhibit along with the information that is necessary for the visitors
to understand when looking at the exhibit [This role should be filled by someone who can relate well to others.]
- Exhibit Designer/Conservator – create scale drawings to show how the exhibit will be set up and viewed by visitors and determine what environment is necessary to display and preserve the objects obtained by the curator [This role should be someone who is artistic/creative.]
Provide the students with rules about what they should be accessing through the internet (information for their project) and what they should not access (music sites, gaming sites, etc.). You may think that these sites are blocked, but I have found most students know ways to get around the firewall.
Be sure the students look at the evaluation rubric before beginning their project. This will let them know what is expected of them.
You may want to make sure that they know how to use different programs that are available to them - Keynote, PowerPoint, Pages, iMovie, iPhoto, etc. Contact your technology staff, and ask if they can do one or two workshops with your students before you begin the WebQuest or be available to answer questions when they are putting their exhibits together.
