"One Minute To Air!"

A group of Hollywood producers want to invest in a new television series. They've decided to hire a group of students to produce a weekly news show originating from your home town! This show will be featured on YouTube and cable markets nationwide. The producers will award a $10 million dollar one-year contract to a special group of students who can prove they've "got the stuff". Your tasks are as follows:

Step 1: Determine what roles are required to produce a television news show and compile a list of those roles and their job descriptions, including:

   • the behind the scenes studio production staff,
   • the group of individuals who decide what stories need to be covered,
   • the in the field staff,
   • the on-set personnel,
   • and any other roles you can think of.

You will need to decide where to begin your research, determine who will conduct the research, and what categories to research.

Step 2: Your next task will be to assign a group of students to work as a publications development team. They will create a publication of the research culled.

Step 3: For the final task, your class will choose a video production team to produce a five-minute documentary featuring two or three interviews of news professionals at their workplace. This video should include behind the scenes footage of the staff at work.
