Teacher Resources

You should not need any additional resources in order for your students to complete this lesson successfully. However, consider the following:

•You may want to familiarize yourself with Ispiration or Kidspiration software, which helps students create webs, outlines and other organizational tools.

•If your students are interested in PowerPoint presentations you will need to know how to create a PowerPoint.

•You will need to help the students decipher the material that they will find on the home pages of chocolate companies. Most of the companies assert that they support fair labor practices, but they often do not unequivocally state that they buy only beans that have not been grown/picked by slaves. Additionally, some companies, such as Hershey, state on their web sites that slavery is a minor issue. There is a mountain of evidence to the contrary.

•If you want to create your own rubrics you should take a look at the Rubistar site. They make it easy. They have pre-made rubrics for persuasive letters and PowerPoint presentations, among others, or you can create a rubric of your own from scratch.
