Teacher Process
This WebQuest is designed to be a multi-day activity:
Day 1: (40 minute period)
Divide the class into groups of six.
- Pass around pictures depicting geographical landforms, landmarks, customs, etc. of each country to the groups and have the students decide which country they are going to research.
- Ask what the students would like to know about each country.
- After each group has designated their country, break up the groups into pairs.
- In pairs, students will use a computer to begin their World Wide Communities WebQuest.
- The pairs of students in the groups will have to decide what part of the country they would like to investigate. Students will choose either, about the place, about the people, or about the culture.
- Students will begin to research information with a graphic organizer to record their findings.
Day 2 & 3: (40 minute period)
- Students will continue to find relevant information about their chosen country.
- Encourage students and assist each group throughout the 40 minute period.
- Students should find at least four facts about the place, people or culture.
Day 4 &5 : (40 minute period)
- Students discuss with group members what they found on their journey.
- Monitor progress students are making with group members and how each student is contributing to the group.
- Students will also begin to start talking about what they want their final poster to look like.
- Teacher will provide art supplies needed for the posters when a group is ready to compile their information on the poster.
- Students should be encouraged to be creative and descriptive.
Day 6: (40 minute period)
- Students will finalize their posters.
- Students will practice and prepare for their classroom presentation.
Day 7: 40 minutes
- Classroom presentations.
- During presentations, students will use a graphic organizers to write down at least two or three important facts about the people, places, and culture of each country.
Day 8: 40 minutes
- Review facts learned about the countries from the presentations on the board.
- Students will choose their favorite country and write a paragraph or an acrostic poem about what they liked and learned about that country.
