Teacher Process
Depending on the number of computers in the classroom, this webquest should take no more than one class period. Teachers can modify the number of students in a group to accomodate class size and computer access. The teacher can also delete questions on the Physics Pirate handout to make sure every student has an even number of questions.
Students should already have been introduced to the subjects of motion and speed either in classroom discussion or labs. This webquest is foremost a review of the concepts involved in this particular area of physics.
First, describe the goal and process of the webquest.
Divide the students into groups. The webquest is set up for groups of five students, but can be modified as you wish. Make sure the students know whether they are splitting up the questions or the websites.
Next, give each group a printout of the treasure map. These may be laminated if you wish to re-use them. If you do laminate them, it is recommended that the students use a dry erase marker instead of a pencil.
Then, give out the Physics Pirate handout. This will have the questions students will research using the Internet.
Assist groups as needed. However, students are expected to use only the websites provided and to do their own research.
