This webquest will give you the chance to investigate the life of the famous inventor, Thomas Edison. By the end of this webquest, I hope that you will have collected data about
Edison’s long-lived life, his magnificent inventions and his important contributions. Most importantly, I want you to be able to tell me why
Edison
was such an important scientist. Your task for this webquest is to do a little scientific research about
Edison. You will observe websites and books and record data just like real scientists do when they research. To begin this exciting exploration you will be broken up into groups of four and each member within your group will select a special role. Each role is very important so you must take your role seriously! A true scientist would take his or her role very seriously! After your group has assigned roles, you will individually research Thomas Edison by collecting data and recording it on the data sheets that go with your role. After each group member has collected their data, you will share all of the information you collected with your group. As you share, your group needs to decide what information from each of the data sheets was most important and record it into a four-columned chart. Real scientists must have all of their important information gathered and organized before they can invent or experiment. Once all of your group’s information is gathered on the chart, your group will create a large data disk based on the information that you recorded on the four-columned chart. Your data disk will be special because it will have two sides; one side will have written information and the other will have drawings or cut out pictures to go along with the words on the opposite side. I can not wait to read and see what you have learned about this famous inventor!
