This webquest is intended for students aspiring to be an Information Technology Specialist. However, it could also be used in many different educational settings. In this webquest, students will assume the roll of an IT professional and bring communications services to their small/mid size business. Students will be required to write a report, deliver a presentation, and document their research.

You have just been hired as the new IT director for a downtown business. Their business is using very old Microsoft DOS based technologies. They are using a non TCP/IP network. Your new employers want you to upgrade or renew their system. They want a complete overhaul of their network and want it to include all the latest technologies. Your task is to identify their needs and design a solution. You will need to provide them with the following capabilities: Voice, Internet, Printing, Faxing, Email, Inventory and E-commerce. Because they have limited knowledge on the subject, they ask that you be as descriptive as possible when outlining the process or recommending equipment and services. They will only follow your plan if it is extremely clear and detailed. The owners should understand the process from the beginning to end before they will start writing checks.
