"A Quilt to Freedom" asks students to research important African American leaders and events. After answering a variety of questions, students will create quilt pieces detailing their leader or event in history.

Teacher Introduction

 Welcome Teachers!

My name is Georgia Anne Ray and I am a fifth grade Language Arts, Reading, and History student teacher at Central Elementary School in Oxford, MS.  My class has many diverse learners including gifted and special education students.  Finding an activity that fits the learning styles and likes of all of my students is a challenge each day.  One thing they all have in common, though, is their excitement for technology.  This assignment is not only a great way to learn about African American leaders but also an excellent motivational tool to use with those students who sometimes get discouraged when given projects to complete.
