Introduction

A new name symbolizes the taking on of a new nature or the anointing by God for a special purpose.  Monks embraced this idea from the earliest times.  A monk would not only take the name of a Saint but would also study his life in order to be able to imitate him.  You will follow in this time-honored tradition of choosing a new name for Confirmation.  You will become a part of the past and in doing so will become a saint for the future.
