Process

1.  First you will need to find out some information about your habitat.  Use the Habitat worksheet to help you record the information you find.

The next step is to find some information about one animal that lives in your habitat.  Make sure that each group member chooses a different animal to research.  Use the Animal worksheet to record the information you find.

The final step in your quest is to find information on two plants or trees (or one of each) found in your habitat.  Choose different ones than your group members.  Use the Plant worksheet to record the information you find.

2.  It's group time!

Join your group members to share what you found.  To create your habitat mobile, you will need to work as a group.  Each group member needs to have one animal and one plant to contribute to the mobile.  There should not be two of the same plants or animals!  As a group, come up with the five most descriptive characteristics for your habitat to include in your mobile.

3.  It is time to create your mobile!

Individually, you will be responsible for creating the following:

1.  You will draw your animal on a 5x7 piece of cardstock.  The picture should be as realistic as possible, including actual color of animal.

2.  On the back of the card, list the name of the animal and two interesting facts that you found about your animal.

3.  On another 5x7 piece of cardstock, draw your plant or tree.  Again, this picture should be as realistic as possible.

4.  On the back of your plant card,  list the name of the plant or tree and two interesting facts that you found about your plant.

As a group:

1.  On one 5x7 card, write the name of your habitat.  Draw a picture of your habitat on the other side.

2.  On another 5x7 card, write the five characteristics about your habitat.

When all of the cards are finished, it is time to put together your mobile!

1.  Punch a hole in the top of each card.

2.  Tie one end of a piece of yarn to the hole of each of your cards.

3.  Tie the other end of each of your cards on the mobile hanger that your teacher gives you.  Make sure to have the name of the habitat in the middle.  Spread out your plants and animals.

When you are finished, each group will then present your mobile to the rest of the class!

4.  Congratulations!  You have just created your own habitat!
