Lesson Summary
Research global warming and one of six major land biomes on Earth.

Learning Objectives and Computer Functions
This lesson plan uses 3 objectives.

Objective 1: Describe global warming. SC.H.1.2.2, SC.G.1.2.2
Uses The Internet to locate web site links and gather information

Objective 2: Identify characteristics of one of the six major land biomes on Earth. SC.G.2.2.3, SC.G.2.2.2
Uses The Internet to locate web site links and gather information

Objective 3: Record information found on websites using a Think Sheet. SC.H.1.2.1
Uses Non-Computer Tool to record data

Problem
Problem Nature
Global warming threatens ecological communities.

Problem Data
located

Notes on Using Data
Students will locate their data using internet links provided by the teacher. They will also be encouraged/allowed to find their own links. This work will be done individually, and information will be saved on their Think Sheets.

Problem Statement
Explain how global warming may affect earth\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s major ecological communities.

Data Manipulation
Instructions
The learner used computers at intermediate level

Integration Strategies
Students will locate information using web site links.

Organization Strategies
Students will record the information they locate on their Think Sheets.

Elaboration Strategies
Students will predict how their specific biome will be affected by global warming.

Results Presentation
Students must complete the entire Think Sheet, finding information to explain global warming; describe the location of their biome and find a world biome map; identify the average rainfall and temperature plus other interesting or unique facts about their biome; and describe and locate pictures of the plants and animals of their biome.

Activities
Activities Before Using the Computer
Participate in a class discussion about global warming; observe the teacher presentation of the web quest, think sheet, and rubric designed for this unit of study.

Strategies to develop students' attitudes towards the problem, motivation, and overall mindfulness:
Describe student roles as that of real scientists; explain that research data will later be used for a PowerPoint presentation, will be compiled with other scientists on their team to create a database, and will be shared with teammates to be used in two debates.

Activities While Using the Computer
Students will work at the computer indiv

Group Information:
Not needed since students will use individual laptops.

Activities After Using the Computer
Review their Think Sheets and use information to begin designing PowerPoint slides.

Supporting Activities
Not needed; students will work individually using wireless laptop computers.

Assessment
Students will be assessed by means of:

Included in the assessment:
A rubric will specify needed data for the Think Sheet. The teacher will also review the Think Sheet individually with the student before they continue.
