Teacher Process
This webquest is best used as a full 2 weeks thematic unit of the Transcontinental Railroad, a class project that I worked on in the credential program. This unit should be cross-curricular, multiple standarads and cross-cultural focus. In addition to the webquest, other content related topics including exploring different of sound effect to human's ear known as the Doppler Effect, which is crucial for the station manager to hear whistles form approaching trains. It also may look into planning a portion of the rail route using topographical map and cross-section graph of landscape. The cultural element of the unit can be the study of Chinese Railraod works and the impact on the American Indians. For the mathematics poriton, students will interpret transcontinental railraod data (wages, laborer, construction calendar, resources log etc) and represent in various graphical forms. For phsyical education, students may play the Transcontinental Frisbee Tournament using the several Transcontinental Railroad landmark as points of destination.
