Phase 1

Breaking up into groups 

  

 Step 1You will be placed in a team of 4 students.

 Step 2 Within your team, you will each choose a role to play. 

 

The team is composed of a facilitator (group leader), a recorder (the scribe), a material and arts manager, and a director.

  

1 Facilitator (group leader) – Your job is to be responsible for navigating the web race and also overseeing the team progress.   

  

2 Recorder (the scribe) – Your job is to record information and suggestions from your teammates using the handouts and worksheets provided by the teacher.

  

3  Material and Arts Manager – Your job is to get all the necessary materials (correct web link, handouts and worksheets, stationary, poster and markers, props, and etc.) to complete the two tasks.  You may be required to create props for the presentation

  

 4  Director- Your job is to direct the team to plan, rehearse and give the two presentations in class.  Make sure that you are not the only one giving the presentations.

  

Remember to listen to each other and work as team!

Make sure you know which company you belong to before you start your exploration!

                                  

Phase 2

Get Ready for the Race

1. Enter the Great Railroad Race and get ready for an exciting adventure.

4. Click on Timeline Worksheet to print out worksheet.

  

5. Click on Timeline Template and create a timeline according to the template.

  

6. Use the Transcontinental Railroad Study Questions worksheet and the Railroad

    Company Poster Template to make a poster to tell us about your railroad company. 

  

 

 

Phase 3 

1. Edit and review your poster and timeline drafts using the templates.

2. Turn in to the teacher for preview edit.

3. Work on the final draft of your poster and timeline chart.

4. Plan and rehearse your presentations using the Timeline and Poster presentation worksheet.
