Standards

Oregon Content Standards for Social Studies 

· Understand and interpret events, issues, and developments within and across eras of U.S. history (Benchmark 3 Grade 8, CIM 9-12).

· Identify and analyze diverse perspectives on and historical interpretation of historical issues and events (Benchmark 3 Grade 8, CIM Grade 9-12).

· Acquire and organize materials from primary and secondary sources (Benchmark 3 Grade 8 and CIM Grade 9-12).

· Explain various perspectives on an event or issue and the reasoning behind them (CIM Grade 9-12).

Oregon Content Standards for Science

· Understand that science is a human endeavor practiced by individuals from many different cultures (Benchmark 3 Grade 8, CIM Grades 9-12).

· Understand that scientific knowledge is subject to change based on new findings and results of scientific observation and experimentation (Benchmark 3 Grade 8, CIM Grades 9-12).

National Education Standards 

·  Social Science – US History Grades 5-12; NSS-USH.5-12.4 ERA 4. Understand United States territorial expansion between 1801 and 1861, and how it affected relations with external powers and Native Americans.

·  Science - History and Nature of Science Grades 9-12; NS.0-12.7. All students should develop understanding of nature of scientific knowledge.
