Teacher Process
Lesson Plan Unit Objectives – (Bloom’s Taxonomies)
Knowledge = Students will locate information regarding a career choice by visiting databases and websites.
Comprehension = Students will interpret the information found regarding a career by writing a fictional narrative.
Application = Students will use the information to embellish the fictional narrative.
Analysis = Students will explain how they are living 20 years from now based on their career research for the personal narrative.
Synthesis = Students will compose a personal fictional narrative based on the research data.
Evaluation = Students will decide if they still wish to pursue the career after completing the personal fictional narrative.
Day 1 – Introduce the Career Project and go over the Rubric. Ask students to write on a piece of paper which grade they are choosing to receive on this project. (This greatly cuts down the number of complainers at the end)
Day 2 – Students complete the Career Assessments in the Library Computer Lab (any Internet connected Lab will do). I highly recommend you use the COIN database – you can get a free trial.
Students choose a career to research and I write it down. (This eliminates the constant changing of careers over the next few days)
Day 3 – Students visit the Career/College Section of the Library and use the Book Resources (Using the books first, keeps the students focused and they all find something by the end of the period; whereas on the computers, many get easily distracted and get no real research done during class time.)
Days 4 – 6 – Students visit the Library for computer and book use.
Students then have 4 days to work on the actual writing on the report on their own while I move on to other areas of the curriculum during class time.
Day 7 – Students Peer Edit each other’s work. Click for an Editing Sheet for the Career Area and an editing sheet for the College Area.
The Project is then usually day a few days later.
