This WebQuest has been designed to help learners develop a foundational knowledge of computer networking and Internet topologies.

Rationale for Instruction: 

We live in a world that we think is dominated by computers but that in actuality is dependent on servers and computer networks. A basic understanding of computer networking is invaluable for individuals to be able to make informed decisions regarding issues of data management and communications. This WebQuest has been designed to help individuals develop a sound foundational knowledge of computer networking.

This WebQuest can be used with learners high school through college levels. Experience with, and interest in, computers and the Internet should be requisite. At the high school level it should be used within a computer concepts or technological foundations course. In college it may be used within a business or business education curriculum.

Students  will complete a series of guiding questions and put your knowledge to create a PowerPoint presentation that you will use to educate others on the major concepts and issues that impact computer networking

Define major networking terminology

Identify the major components of a computer network

Explain the differences between the Internet and the World Wide Web

Name the various topologies that impact networking

Describe why and how a router is used

Describe the role of servers in computer networking

Explain the three major types of switching
