Students will become familiar with Greek and Latin root words, with the understanding that they are always spelled the same way and have the same meaning. Furthermore, students will realize that they can use Greek and Latin roots and affixes to find the meaning of new words.

Introduction

 

 

How did dinosaurs get their name?  It came from root words.  Dino means powerful or terrible and saur means lizard or "terrible lizard".  This a webquest about root words.  You will discover Greek and Latin root words, their meanings and how they are used to form  new words.  You will create some new words yourself.  Your cooperative learning group and you will also create a web quest explaining how root words come together to form new words and how knowing rootwords can increase standardized test scores..  Finally, you will use rootwords in a croaaword puzzle.
