CA Physical Education Framework
Goals and Disciplines for the Physical Education Curriculum
Goal: Self-Image and Personal Development
Students develop and maintain a positive self-image and strive to become the best that they can be through planned physical activities.
From childhood through adulthood individuals are always developing their self-image and becoming the best that they can be. A child's self-perception begins in infancy through interaction with others. The ability to move effectively is closely associated with a child's self-perception. Because self-image has a direct bearing on one's ability and willingness to learn in any situation, the physical education curriculum must be carefully planned and implemented to help students learn to move effectively and efficiently, thereby enhancing a positive self-image and helping students to achieve their best.
