Task
Mr. Eads, your head tour guide will split the class into groups of four. Each member of your group will find out information about a designated topic from Egypt. The topics being researched are:
- Mummies
- Ancient Gods
- Pyramids
- Pharaohs and Queens
- Egyptian People
- Geography of Ancient Egypt
- Egyptian Art and Archeology
Students will begin with Mummies, then go to Ancient Gods and Goddessess, then research Pyramids, then Pharaohs and Queens, the Egyptian People, the Geography of Ancient Egypt and Egyptian Art and Archelogy. Students will create a papyrus document and a brochure. Students will need to include the following in their papyrus document: a summary, interesting facts, pictures, and hand drawn sketches. Students will need to include the following in their brochure: facts taken from the papyrus document, pictures, and descriptions of places to visit. Students will include the following in their 3-D tomb: visual that represents their topic, summary of items placed within the tomb, and the importance of the items.
The team will be made up of the following members:
- Travel agent: responsible for creating a summary of groups chosen topic (travel brochure)
- Tour guide: responsible for finding interesting facts about group chosen project.
- Photographer: responsible for finding photographs and illustrations with accompanying sentences describing photographs and illustrations.
- Archaeologist: responsible for finding temple tomb artifacts and recording them for 3-D visual representations of temple tomb room related to group topic.
Questions to consider:
1. What time period are you studying?
2. Which myths or legends - if any - might be based on truth?
3. How important are cultural beliefs to society?
4. Is science always accurate? What is the likelihood that what the scientists learn will still be "true" 10 years from now? Or 100 years?
5. When cultural beliefs conflict with scientific concepts, which should take precedence?
6. How do travelers affect the economy of the Egypt?
