Process

Your job is to answer a list of questions and then write about your experiences in your war diary for a period of 3 days for a total of 3 war diary entries. You may choose to be a male or female at war "over there." Make the entries as long or as brief as you wish, however your grade will reflect the work you put into answering the questions and how realistic your diary entries are.

A sample diary entry may begin as follows: June, 8, 1917. We fought off another German attack today. The fighting was.........

1. Explain what "no man's land" is.

2. What does over the phrase, "Over the top'" mean?

3.  How was gas used as a weapon in the WW1 and what were the different types of gas used and the effects of each gas?

4.  How young were some of the soldiers who fought in WW1 and how did they get into the military?

5. What was life like in the trenches for the typical soldier?

6.  What is trench foot and how did the soldiers prevent it? 

7.  Why were rats a problem in the trenches?

8.  What did the soldiers do to combat the rats?

9.  What part did women play in America's effort in WW1, how many served in the military?

10. How many Army nurses were awarded medals during WW1 and what medals did they win?

11. Who was the 369th Infantry Brigade and what were two of their nicknames?

12. Name some of the accomplishments of the 369th Infantry Brigade.

 

 I have listed several web sites for you to visit and mine for information. Use these sources to answer your questions and to write your war diary. While you navigate through these web sites it is easy to get lost in cyberspace. To get back to the web quest simply click on you browser back button until you return to the web quest.
