This WebQuest explores the debate on the origins of the Cold War. What are the factors contributing to the advent of the Cold War? Uncover the age-old debate through examination of the two traditional rivalling perspectives - American vs. Russian. A renowned publishing house is looking to publish a new perspective on why the Cold War began. They invite panels of historians to submit proposals on their new books. Their job is to adopt either one perspective, build it up through online research and shape the unique outlook of their 'book', to be offered to the publishing house. The Quest tests the panels' skills as historians as well as their Web proficiency.

Introduction

The renowned publishing house, Cambridge University Press, is looking to publish a perspective on the beginning of the Cold War. Cambridge University Press is particularly interested in the debate on the origins of the Cold War. There were many traditional interpretations of why the Cold War sparked off . The Reds Revolution? The destructive potential of atomic bomb? Souring relations between the Big Three? Do they still stand as reasons for the Cold War, or is there a fresher perspective out there? The publishing house wants to offer a fresh perspective into this debate by producing a text suitable for schools.

They invite historical enthusiasts to submit proposals for the new book and to present their 'case' or 'story' to the panel of senior editors. The proposal with the most convincing perspective will be commissioned to publish the newest book from Cambridge University Press.
