Process:
Introduce idea of myth and solicit examples from students and provide other examples. Question, WHEN and WHAT PURPOSE and METHOD of delivery.
WHEN- long ago
WHAT PURPOSE- explain the unknown
METHOD of delivery- person to person word of mouth
Play the "Telephone" game. Teacher tells first student a 5 sentence story with details and surprise twist to first student. (Students should be sitting in a "U" or circle. First whispers to second who whispers to third, etc. etc. Last person tells story and then teach reads original. Discuss change and exaggeration.
Explain "Urban Myth"
WHEN- very recent past even "yesterday" or "last week"
