Process

What is a myth?  What is a legend? What is a folktale?  Brainstorm definitions of each. What might they have in common?  How might they be different?

The class will be divided into groups of three. Each group will be responsible for creating a Venn diagram that answers these questions.

You must find one legend on the web. It must be a simplified form or you must simplify it yourself. You want your story to be clear and easily understood by beginning ESOL students. Create a powerpoint of the legend using five slides. Each slide must have a graphic, background, and transitions. The presentation must include a minimum of two animations and a minimum of five custom animations of text. Include a link to your source.

You must retell a folktale from your country.  You want your story to be clear and easily understood by beginning ESOL students. Create a powerpoint of the story using five slides. Each slide must have a graphic, background, and transitions. The presentation must include a minimum of two animations and a minimum of five custom animations of text. Use vocabulary and terms from your language as needed, but provide links to translations. Graphics should be culturally appropriate.

Jointly or individually create your own modern myth explaining  ______________

Maintain a daily dialog journal. Note what you find on the web. Tell how your group is working. Ask questions.

You and your team members will do a three-part presentation. Each of you must choose a different element, format, or media to present a myth, legend or folktale. The storyline can be classic, humorous, politically correct, or original.

Some ideas are:

If done individually - a diarama, a pop-up book, an original poem, a poster, or another approved artistic representation.

If done as a group - a play or a skit, a puppet show or a "performance" song.
