HOW TO WRITE A 5-PARAGRAPH ESSAY

GETTING THE IDEA - What is a 5-Paragraph Essay?
    Begin research.
    More to look at.
    Still more to explore.
    Just one more.

PREWRITING
Choose, download, and print a graphic organizer:
        Sandwich
        Steps
        Spider
2.    Using a pencil, fill out the graphic organizer you chose.  You may go back to "GETTING THE IDEA" steps and use the information you have found there, but you may not copy word for word other people's work.  (That's plagiarism - a.k.a. cheating!)

ROUGH DRAFT
With a pencil and lined notebook paper, write a rough draft of your essay in complete sentences.  Use every other line so that it will be easier to make revisions and edits.

SELF-EDIT
VERY QUIETLY, read your rough draft ALOUD to yourself.  Correct errors and make edits as needed.

PEER EDIT
Have a classmate read through your rough draft to correct errors and make edits as needed.

COMPUTER DRAFT TO FINAL DRAFT
Use a word processing program (like Word) to type your final draft.  Don't forget to put your full name, class period, and date in the upper right-hand corner of your paper and center the title of your essay.  Type your essay and save to your folder.
Next, use the spell check and grammar check (under "Tools" on the Word menu).  Make any neccessary corrections.  Save and print a copy for your teacher and a copy for yourself.
