Teacher Process

There are three parts to the process:

Part 1:

Students investigate the basic facts about gorillas online either individually or in groups and then discuss their discoveries in class. This will help them learn new vocabulary and learn about the animal. The third site doesn't answer all the questions, but it is much easier to understand.

Part 2:

Here students investigate why gorillas are in danger. They visit various websites and fill out a chart summarizing their findings. This could be done individually or in groups. The results should be compared and discussed in class and the students should come to a consensus about what they think the processes are.

Part 3:

In groups, students investigate various organizations dedicated to saving the gorilla. They prepare class presentations about the organization they investigate. (Note: it isn't necessary to have groups visit all of the sites.) The presentations are done in front of the classroom. Illustration makes the presentations much more interesting.

Conclusion:

After the presentations have concluded, students come to a conclusion about which conversation strategies they feel are the best and do one of the follow-up activities.
